Aquaponics
What I grow
Grown across the media beds, raised soil beds, and the rest of the patch.
Media beds
Tomatoes, cucumber, rocket, celery, capsicum, zucchini, spinach, climbing beans, peas, snow peas, broccolini, spring onions, and a range of herbs: basil, oregano, parsley, thyme, mint, rosemary, coriander.
Raised soil beds
Root crops that don't suit aquaponics media beds: kipfler potatoes, carrots, beetroot. I used to grow these in a wicking bed; these days they are in regular raised beds (see garden tasks for why).
Still in the soil garden
Crops that don't suit aquaponics or this size of system: pumpkin, sweet potato, large potatoes, ginger, turmeric and other tropical root crops, plus fruit trees.
Future plans
Growing towers, mainly for strawberries, are on the list. If the DWC raft bed gets built, leafy greens like lettuce, basil, parsley and rocket will move there.
